About the project
Plants Are Friends reimagined the traditional solo exhibition as an immersive virtual journey, allowing visitors to step inside the artistic universe of Portuguese artist Kredo.
Combining virtual reality, spatial audio, interactivity and narrative storytelling, the experience invited audiences to explore not only the artworks, but also the ideas, memories, and creative process behind them.

WHAT IF VISITORS COULD STEP INSIDE AN ARTIST'S IMAGINATION INSTEAD OF SIMPLY OBSERVING IT?
Traditional exhibitions ask audiences to look at artworks.
Plants Are Friends proposed a different approach: transforming the artist's visual language, philosophy, and environmental concerns into a spatial journey where every room became an artwork to inhabit rather than observe.
THE PROJECT REIMAGINED KREDO'S BODY OF WORK AS A NARRATIVE EXHIBITION UNFOLDING ACROSS A SERIES OF IMMERSIVE ENVIRONMENTS.
Developed in collaboration with Le Freak Shows and N.IRL, the design process began with an extensive exploration of KREDO's creative practice. Through interviews and research into her philosophy, visual language, values, and artistic process, the experience was conceived to faithfully translate her worldview into a journey visitors could inhabit rather than simply observe.
Rather than arranging artworks chronologically or thematically, the exhibition transformed KREDO's artistic universe into a journey through space, ecology, and speculative futures.
Visitors travelled from the familiarity of Earth's plant life into increasingly unfamiliar worlds before arriving at a future shaped by humanity's relationship with nature.
Every environment was inspired by one of KREDO's artworks, allowing audiences to experience the ideas behind the work from the inside.
Originally conceived as a site-specific exhibition for Barcelona's Botanical Garden, the project was later adapted into a virtual reality prototype while preserving the original spatial concept.

INTERACTION & IMMERSION WAS DESIGNED TO DEEPEN INTERPRETATION RATHER THAN DISTRACT FROM IT.
Traditional exhibitions ask audiences to look at artworks.
However, in Plats Are Friends, visitors encountered a storyline filled with digital prompts, questions, and activities throughout the journey, encouraging them to interpret KREDO's work and reflect on humanity's relationship with ecology, technology, and the future.
Immersive Narrative
Room I – Plants Are Friends
Visitors entered the artist's lush botanical universe, immersed within one of KREDO's largest illustrations celebrating care, coexistence, and the living world.

Immersive Narrative
Room III – Astro Traveling
A transitional environment where visitors left Earth behind, surrounded by celestial bodies, imagined species, and cosmic landscapes while preparing for interstellar travel.

Immersive Narrative
Room V – 2084
The final environment presented a speculative future imagined by the artist, based on her illustrated publication 2084.
Filled with surveillance, environmental degradation, and extreme climatic conditions, the room invited visitors to consider the long-term consequences of humanity's relationship with the natural world.

Immersive Narrative
Room II – Alienature
Gradually, familiar landscapes became increasingly unfamiliar as plants, rocks, and ecosystems evolved into surreal hybrid forms, suggesting nature transformed across time and space.

Immersive Narrative
Room IV – Black Hole Theory
Passing through a tunnel inspired by KREDO's artwork of the same name, visitors travelled through darkness into an unknown future, using movement itself as part of the narrative.

Prompt Journey
Interactive Reflection Stations
Throughout the journey, visitors encountered digital prompts, questions, and activities encouraging them to interpret KREDO's work and reflect on humanity's relationship with ecology, technology, and the future.
