PAINTING THE SEASONS OF LIFE INTO ONE COLLECTIVE ARTWORK
About the Interface
The Collective Puzzle Painting Time was commissioned for A Time For Everything, a participatory art experience designed by XAV for an intimate birthday and farewell gathering in Barcelona.
Inspired by the passage from Ecclesiastes describing life as a succession of seasons—times to begin and end, build and destroy, mourn and celebrate—28 participants were randomly given puzzle-shaped canvases connected to different phases of life.
Each person interpreted their prompt through painting, creating an individual response without knowing exactly how it would relate to the others.
Once dry, the pieces were brought back together and assembled into one artwork. What had begun as separate interpretations became a collective representation of time, transformation, and the many contradictory experiences contained within a life.
The artifact transformed individual introspection into collective meaning-making, using the puzzle itself as a metaphor for interconnectedness and change.
