TURNING AN EXHIBITION INTO A JOURNEY OF DISCOVERY

About the Interface

The Expedition Passport was designed by XAV for Expedition In Situ?, transforming the immersive exhibition into an exploratory journey across artworks, installations, and public programming.

Visitors received a passport upon arrival and collected stamps as they interacted with different parts of the experience—from the exhibition’s excavation sites to its participatory activities and archaeology talk.

Rather than rewarding attendance alone, the passport made engagement visible. Each stamp represented another layer of the experience that the visitor had actively uncovered.

Participants who completed their passport became eligible for the final reward mechanic: a wheel of fortune offering the possibility of receiving an explorer hat designed and painted by Michelle Andrea.

By borrowing the language of expeditions, passports, and discovery, the interface connected the visitor journey directly to the exhibition’s archaeological concept.
